Sara Evans Marries Jay Barker June 18, 2008 — People.com reports that Sara Evans married former University of Alabama quarterback Jay Barker Saturday in an outdoor ceremony at a Franklin, Tenn. farm near Sara's home.
Sara's son Avery, 8, walked her down the aisle and the couple's seven children (Sara's three and Barker's four from their previous marriages) were their only attendants.
Nashville singer/songwriter Marcus Hummon, writer of the Rascal Flatts hit "Bless the Broken Road," performed the song during the short ceremony. Christian minister Joe Beam, who introduced the couple last fall, performed the ceremony.
The wedding's catering was decidedly more down-home, featuring fried chicken, beans, biscuits and macaroni and cheese.
"It was really very elegant, but Sara wanted it to feel like you were at her house," acording to friend and wedding planner Traci Phillips.
New Lonestar Album On The Way June 18, 2008 — Lonestar introduced its new lead singer, Cody Collins, with a Christmas album last year, and now the band is on its way toward putting out a more traditional studio album in September, though the distribution will likely be anything but traditional.
For starters, the band has decided to release it on its own label. Plus, there’s a good possibility that they’ll make it available only through a few specific chains and on the Internet.
"We’re gonna try to get some distribution through Wal-Mart and some other avenues as well," guitarist Michael Britt says. "But I think eventually everything is going to be digital, ‘cause I think even Wal-Mart’s gonna stop sellin’ CDs in a couple years."
Whatever avenue is used to get the music to the public, Lonestar believes this album will be an authentic, unfettered representation, since for the first time, they were able to record the project without anyone from a record company having a say in the process.
Earlier this month, Lonestar held its fourth annual bowling bash for the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Among the acts who participated were Trace Adkins, Jo Dee Messina, Josh Gracin, Trent Tomlinson, Jimmy Wayne, Bryan White and Lady Antebellum.

HERE'S TODAY'S 4:00 ROCK104PLAY CRANIAL AND ANSWER
WHAT IS THE NAME OF ERIC CLAPTON'S FAVORITE GUITAR THAT HE AUCTIONED OFF IN 2004 TO RAISE FUNDS FOR HIS REHAB FACILITY?
answer: 'BLACKIE'
++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Bidding for Blackie started at an impressive $100,000, and a heated bidding war follows. The auctioneer struggles to take in all of the action - the bidders' hands raised in the house, a flurry of telephone bids, and the pre-auction bids from absentee bidders. The number of raised hands eventually dwindles as the high bids reach the $600,000-$700,000 range. The final winning bid comes in at a whopping $850,000 ($959,500 after auction house fees) and receives a standing ovation from the entire house that lasted several minutes. The sale price of Blackie has set a world auction record for an electric guitar.

TODAY IS DYNGUS DAY, A POLISH EASTER MONDAY CELEBRATION WHICH IS QUITE POPULAR IN SOUTH BEND.
_______________________________________
NAME TWO DYNGUS DAY EVENTS.
answer: EGG ROLLING AND THE DOUSING OF EACH OTHER WITH HOLY WATER
Easter Monday is the day after Easter Sunday and is celebrated as a holiday in some largely Christian cultures.
Formerly, the post-Easter festivities involved a week of secular celebration, but this was reduced to one day in the 19th century. Events include egg rolling competitions and, in predominantly Catholic countries, dousing other people with water which, at one time, had been holy water blessed the day before at Easter Sunday Mass and carried home to bless the house and food.

'10 days out'
Ace Frehley is best known as the original lead guitarist of the hard rock/heavy metal band Kiss. He joined Kiss in late 1973. Frehley walked into the auditions for the lead guitarist position, wearing one red shoe and one orange shoe. As the band was still talking to Bob Kulick, the previous person to audition, Frehley started playing his guitar to warm up his fingers. Kiss members Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons threatened to throw him out, then noticed his mismatched shoes, and decided to give him a chance to audition. When the band played "Deuce" and Frehley whipped out an impressive guitar solo, Stanley and Simmons realized that they had found their guitarist. Thus, the original Kiss lineup was finally completed.
When Kiss decided to start wearing makeup on stage, Frehley became the spaceman because he was fascinated with science fiction and space travel. Though he wrote many of Kiss' classic hits, including "Cold Gin" and "Strange Ways", he was afraid to sing lead vocals, so he let either Gene Simmons or Peter Criss sing the songs he wrote.
Frehley did not sing any of his own songs until 1977, when he sang lead vocals on the song "Shock Me", from the album "Love Gun". His solo album in 1978 quickly became the best-selling of the four members' solo albums.
Frehley left Kiss in 1982 because of creative differences with Simmons and Stanley. He formed his own band, Frehley's Comet, in the mid 1980s, and signed to Atlantic/Megaforce Records.
His first album with his new band was called Frehley's Comet, released in 1987. Frehley's band consisted of Tod Howarth on guitars and vocals, John Regan on bass, and Anton Fig on drums, who had played drums with Frehley on his first solo album. The hit song "Rock Soldiers" was featured on this album.

April Showers
Wow, how about that West Texas rain!! After a weekend with plenty of clouds and some chilly breezes, Mother Nature has a much better forecast in store for us this Party on the Patio Tuesday. Enjoy temperatures in the mid-80s, just a few clouds and practically no wind as we once again make our way to Clear Springs Cafe for good food, good fun, great prizes and the best group of folks in the Permian Basin. We'll kick things off at 5:00 Tuesday afternoon with those $2 domestic longnecks, frozen margaritas and onion rings. The winning starts shortly thereafter with LoneStar 92 T-shirts up for grabs, as well as CDs, concert tickets, passes for summer fun destinations and more. Word That Wins players just might receive another Word on the Street (last week's was worth 20,000 extra points), so don't miss out!
Taking Care of Business
LoneStar 92 is proud to help sponsor this year's Midland Chamber of Commerce Business Expo, taking place Wednesday from 10:00 to 5:00 at Midland Center. Find out what Chamber membership can do for your business, take advantage of a wide variety of networking opportunities and learn from some of the best sales executives in the market. Two seminars are planned for the day, both designed to help you get the most from your sales team. Those are scheduled for 11:00 and 1:00, in addition to the many booths set up to offer you information about products, methods and ideas that can help make your business even better. We'll see you there!
A New Month of Texas Country Music
You know there's not a Thursday that goes by without an incredible show at The Ranch in Midland, and LoneStar 92 joins them in bringing you another month of live music Thursdays with your Texas Country Music Concert Series. Join us this week for the Kyle Bennett Band. If you haven't heard these guys before, get a preview now on our website, www.lonestar92.com. Then listen Wednesday morning as Gwen the Morning Show Idol begins qualifying for a VIP table for four. That'll be given away at 3:40 Thursday afternoon with Hilary. Also on the schedule for this month are Stoney LaRue, Free Ride, Electric Cowboys and Wade Bowen. We'll see you at The Ranch!
The Good Word
LoneStar 92's Word That Wins rolls on! Don't forget to keep an eye on the list of prizes, as it's always being updated. Keep collecting words on-air weekdays at 7:20 am, 10:20 am, 1:20 pm, 3:20 pm and 5:20 pm. We'll also hand out more bonus Words on the Street as we broadcast live on location. TODAY'S AFTERNOON CRANIAL WHEN BUYING A NEW ACOUSTIC GUITAR YOU HAVE TO BE CAREFUL OF TWO THINGS. WHAT ARE THEY?
answer:THAT IT DOESN'T GET TOO DRY OR EXPOSED TO TOO MUCH HUMIDITY
-be caller number 9 with the correct answer at
478-rock and win a copy of anthony gomes new cd
'music is the medicine'
When you buy a new acoustic guitar you need to be very careful the first several years that they don't dry out or get too much humidity. Why? The wood hasn't settled into its cured state yet. Curing of wood is so very important that done right the wood goes for a pretty penny. The old forest wood that is being pulled up from the bottom of the Great Lakes is prohibitively expensive. Some believe that Stradivarius aged his wood under water so that the cells would lose moisture slower and also be affected by anaerobic bacteria.

TODAY'S 4:00 ROCK104PLAY IS BASED ON SONGS WITH WOMEN'S NAMES IN THE TITLE.
HERE'S TODAY'S AFTERNOON CRANIAL-
ERIC CLAPTON'S SONG 'LAYLA' IS BASED ON A BOOK THAT HE FELT WAS VERY CLOSE TO HIS PERSONAL LIFE. HE WAS IN LOVE WITH A WOMAN WHO WAS ALREADY MARRIED TO ANOTHER MAN. NAME THE WOMAN AND THE MAN SHE WAS MARRIED TO:
ANSWER: 'PATTY BOYD HARRISON, WHO WAS MARRIED TO BEATLE GEORGE HARRISON'
In 1969, Clapton fell in love with Pattie Boyd, the wife of one of his best friends, Beatles' George Harrison. At about the same time, one of Clapton's friends gave him a copy of "The Story of Layla and Majnun" as written by Azerbaijani poet Nizami. The book moved Clapton profoundly as it was the tale of a young man who fell hopelessly in love with a beautiful, unavailable woman and who went crazy because he couldn't marry her. Clapton saw the correlation with his own life.
With the help of percussionist Jim Gordon, Clapton wrote a song based on his reaction to the story and called it "Layla." He hoped its message would convince Boyd to leave her husband for him. "Layla" was first recorded in 1970 by Derek & the Dominoes, Clapton's band at the time and was featured on the album "Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs." Another title on the album, "I Am Yours," was also inspired by the same 12th century epic poem by Nizami.
When the album came out, Clapton played the music for Boyd, gave her a copy of the book, and declared his love for her. They had a brief affair, but she broke it off and refused to leave her husband. But due to Clapton's persistence, he eventually did succeed in marrying her several years later. The marriage ended unhappily in divorce in 1988. Even though the romance didn't last, Eric Clapton's song "Layla" has maintained its popularity and is considered by some to be one of rock music's definitive love songs.
Leyla
by Eric Clapton and Jim Gordon
Based on Nizami's 12th century epic poem, "Leyli and Majnun"
What'll you do when you get lonely
And no one's waiting by your side?
You've been running and hiding much too long.
You know it's just your foolish pride.
Chorus:
Layla, got me on my knees,
Layla, Begging, darling please, Layla,
Darling, won't you ease my worried mind?
I tried to give you consolation
When your old man had let you down.
Like a fool, I fell in love with you,
Turned my whole world upside down.
Let's make the best of the situation
Before I finally go insane.
Please don't say we'll never find a way
And tell me all my love's in vain
I Am Yours
by Eric Clapton
Based on Nizami's 12th century epic poem, "Leyli and Majnun"
I am yours.
However distant you may be,
There blows no wind but wafts your scent to me,
There sings no bird but calls your name to me.
Each memory that has left its trace with me
Lingers forever as a part of me.
I am yours.

ROCK104 PRESENTS THE NEW RUSH ALBUM THIS SATURDAY NIGHT AT 10
***********************************************
IN HONOR OF OUR NEW MONUMENTAL ROCK
HERE AT OUR NEW STUDIOS ON LOWER HUNTINGTON ROAD TODAY ROCK104PLAY IS BASED ON SONGS WITH THE WORD 'ROCK'
HERE'S TODAY CRANIAL-
WHAT LEGENDARY DISC JOCKEY COINED THE PHRASE 'ROCK AND ROLL' ON RADIO?
answer: ALAN FREED
The term was first used to describe a particular kind of music by Alan Freed, the legendary Cleveland disc jockey who was among the first to introduce black rhythm-and-blues music to a white audience. But the roots of the term go back much earlier.
In the 1920s the words "rock" and "roll," used separately or together, were employed by blacks to mean partying, carrying on, and/or having sex. According to rock historian Nick Tosches, blues singer Trixie Smith recorded a tune in 1922 called "My Daddy Rocks Me (With One Steady Roll)" for Black Swan Records. "Daddy," suffice it to say, was not trying to rock little Trixie to sleep. This song inspired such variations as "Rock That Thing" by Lil Johnson and "Rock Me Mama" by Ikey Robinson.
By the 1930s the term had begun to be associated with the idea of music with a good beat to it. In 1931 Duke Ellington did "Rockin' in Rhythm" for Victor.

(If you can't view the video on this page, click HERE)
Dierks Bentley's Work Pays Off Oct. 1, 2008 — Dierks Bentley’s new single, "Feel That Fire," is the first piece of music he’s released from his next album, one that’s taken longer than any of his previous CDs to make.
The album is due early next year, and it’s one in which he took some chances musically.
"This time around I tried to bring the element of failure back into it and really try to do it in different ways," he told the national radio show GAC Nights: Live From Nashville. "It’s going to be way more expensive than any record I’ve ever made. And I’ve got to credit my producer and engineer just with being able to stick with it, because [I’ve] done a lot of things twice and three times over, and ‘Feel That Fire’ I’ve probably recorded five times. There’s so many different versions of every song, but I think it’s gonna be the best record, ‘cause I just really put this much time into it."
Dierks has his third annual Miles & Music For Kids motorcycle ride planned for Sunday. In addition to previously announced participants Tim McGraw and John Rich, he’s added Jamey Johnson, NASCAR driver Kyle Petty and members of Lady Antebellum, Halfway To Hazard and the Warren Brothers to the lineup.
Dierks and his wife, Cassidy, are expecting a baby any day; hopefully the delivery and the race won’t conflict.

ANSWER: HIS RIGHT MIDDLE FINGER
JERRY GARCIA had half of his right middle finger lopped off when he was four -- a wood-chopping axe did the job -- but he became a scintillating guitarist anyway. Garcia led the long-running rock band The Grateful Dead until his death in 1995, and his soaring guitar solos were part of the Dead's legendary live shows. Garcia also had a respectable solo career, dabbling in bluegrass and folk music.

John Mayall's legacy as a legendary figure in blues music in general, not just in Britain, was well-established before the end of the sixties. By the time 1969 arrived, he had enlisted, collaborated with and seen move on, the likes of Eric Clapton, Peter Green, John McVie, Mick Fleetwood and Mick Taylor (among others), all of whom became, to a greater or lesser degree, famous names with other affiliations such as Cream, Rolling Stones and Fleetwood Mac.

Fifty Million Taylor Fans Can’t Be Wrong June 25, 2008 — Taylor Swift is consistently ranked at number one 1 on the MySpace social network, and she’s now topped an extraordinary mark: Her music has been streamed more than 50 million times from her MySpace page, demonstrating how avid her fans are at finding her songs.
That comes at a time when she continues to rack up major milestones. Her self-titled debut album was certified triple-platinum last month, meaning her label has shipped more than 3 million copies. In addition, the ringtone for "Our Song" went gold after being downloaded as a signature sound for 500,000 cell phones. To top it off, the Taylor Swift album has now spent a total of 20 weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard country albums chart. The only other female acts who’ve spent that many weeks at the top of that chart this decade are the Dixie Chicks and Carrie Underwood.
Taylor’s already the winner of new-artist trophies from both the Country Music Association and the Academy of Country Music, a Grammy nominee and one of People magazine’s Most Beautiful People in the World. She’s in the process of recording her sophomore album, which will likely be released before the end of the year.
Willie Nelson Brings Farm Aid Check to Iowa June 25, 2008 — Fifteen years ago, Willie Nelson staged one of his Farm Aid concerts in Iowa, calling attention to agricultural entrepreneurs with a show in Ames that featured Waylon Jennings, Dwight Yoakam, Ringo Starr, Travis Tritt, Martina McBride and many others.
This last weekend he was back in the Hawkeye State to deliver funds from Farm Aid’s Family Farm Disaster Fund in response to recent flooding in the Midwest. Willie presented a $10,000 check to the Iowa Grassroots Coalition. More should be on the way — over $40,000 has been donated to Farm Aid for flood relief since last week.
"Our hearts go out to the folks all along the Mississippi who are being affected by the severe floods that have taken out towns and farms in Iowa and Wisconsin," Willie says. "At Farm Aid, we have had friends in these communities for 23 years who can deliver immediate support to family farmers, getting them back on the land, growing good food for all of us."
Contributions can be made online at farmaid.org.

David Bowie was offered a record deal by Mercury Records in 1969. Bowie signed with the label and went into the studio the same day to rework the hit “Space Oddity,” with Gus Dudgeon. Dudgeon would also produce albums by Elton John.
TODAY'S 4:00 ROCK104PLAY WILL FEATURE DAVID BOWIE
WIN A PRIZE FROM BUSTER WITH THIS AFTERNOON'S CRANIAL BY BEING THE 9TH ROCKER WITH THE ANSWER FOR THIS CRANIAL
WHY AREN'T DAVID BOWIE'S EYES IDENTICAL?
long version of answer:
Bowie was born with blueish eyes. In 1962, he got into a fight with his longtime school friend George Underwood (over George's girlfriend), and a punch from Underwood damaged Bowie's left eye. His pupil was paralyzed, becoming unable to dilate or contract according to the ambient light.
As a result, Bowie's left eye now appears to be a different colour to his right eye, appearing either brown or green depending on the ambient light.

THE REVERAND BILLY G BILLY GIBBONS
Those who know Billy describe him as an eccentric genius -- he reportedly has several automotive-related patents in his name. He is an avid African art collector and has a warehouse full of artifacts. Even the new "hat" he sports is a very old African piece that he purchased from a collector,. He had it "dated" to confirm its age.
